In the fifth round of the  AFC Champions League Elite 2024-2025, Al Wasl defeated their host Al Shorta with a score of 3-1 at Karbala Stadium.

Jonathas Santos opened the scoring for "The Emperor" in the 14th minute with a precise pass from Majid Surour after a scramble in Al Shorta's penalty area.

In the second half, Fahd Youssef equalized for Al Shorta in the 50th minute. Fabio Lima put Al Wasl back in the lead in the 64th minute with a penalty kick. Nicolás Giménez sealed the win with a third goal in the 92nd minute after a penalty awarded by the referee via VAR, following a foul on Ali Saleh in Al Shorta's penalty area.
