Al Wasl Sports Club has officially announced the appointment of Frenchman Eric Abidal as the club’s Sporting Director, as part of its efforts to enhance its sports management structure. Abidal will be responsible for strategic planning, sports management, youth development, and overseeing the club’s academy. Additionally, he will coordinate with the board of directors to attract talents and represent the club in  conferences and both local and international sports meetings.
Abidal brings vast experience from European football, having started his professional career with AS Monaco FC in 2000, before moving to Lille and Olympique Lyon. He later joined Barcelona, where he played until 2013, before retiring with Olympiacos in 2014.
Abidal earned 67 caps for the French national team, and finished as  World Cup runner-up in 2006. Abidal has held the position of Sporting Director at FC Barcelona in June 2018. His presence at Al Wasl Club will be be a significant step for the Emperor to develop the technical work and raise its level.
