Al Wasl receives the Club of the Century award at the “Waslawi” Family Gathering

Al Wasl Sports Club organized the “Waslawi Family Gathering” event to celebrate the team’s old stars and discuss the club’s future, in the presence of a group of former board members and IFFHS officials.

The Event, which was sponsored by the Transitional Committee of Al Wasl Club headed by H.E. Ahmed bin Shafar, toke on many issues related to the future of the club and the interdependence of Al Wasl family in its various generations.

In conclusion, Al Wasl Club received the award of the 20th Century Club in the UAE, which was crowned after being chosen by (IFFHS) in 2009 due to its international and local achievements during the period from 1974-1999, which was represented in achieving 6 league championships, and maintaining its presence among the first and second for 11 consecutive seasons, in addition to achieving the bronze medal in the Asian Champions League in 1993 after beating Tokyo Verde (formerly Yomiuri) 4-3.

H.E. Ahmed bin Shafar, Chairman of the Transitional Committee of Al Wasl Club, expressed his happiness with the historic event, which is not repeated often, saying: This award confirms the heritage of Al Wasl club not only locally, but also on the Arab and international level, and places Al Wasl among the few clubs in the world that have received this honor.

Pointing out that the award is the efforts of previous generations of boards of directors and players, and their presence today is a message of thanks to them and an affirmation of the spirit of the “Waslawi” family that has always distinguished this great entity.

His Excellency added that everyone is working day and night to restore Al Wasl to its normal position on the podiums, and to write a new history to be added to the history of achievements of this great club.

In return, Mr. Robert Ley, Vice President of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics IFFHS, confirmed that the Century Club award is given according to very precise criteria carried out by specialists in this field, and therefore Al Wasl UAE deserved this title well and deservedly, saying that few have received this title so Al Wasl fans should be proud of this achievement.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) was founded in 1984 by Dr. Alfredo Pogg, in Leipzig, Germany before moving its headquarters to Switzerland, and includes more than 211 countries from all over the world.

It collaborates with FIFA, to provide chronological documentation, statistical data and official information, to determine team rankings, as well as to organize the many individual awards recognized around the world.
